Away from it all, on a vast 3/4 mile stretch of white sandy beach, this exquisite property is a private retreat for relaxation, where guests can lounge by the transparent turquoise waters under a warm tropical sun. The Dona Isabel, a Hacienda in bright Mexican colors, opens to a lively replica of a village square with vendors, shops, cozy restaurants, a disco and even an ice cream parlor. Marble walkways lead to an impressive lobby with a sky-high pillar etched with Mayan hieroglyphs, and further on you will find restaurants and a huge lagoon-shaped pool divided into 3 sections with 3 levels. Both adults and children will find a variety of activities, including water sports. The Mayan fortress of Tulum is only 20 minutes away, where visitors will find ancient ruins overlooking the blue Caribbean. At the Gran Bahia Principe, you will find a splendid variety of dining options, including a choice of specialty Mexican, Italian and open-air Mediterranean.

^{Judy and Maria's} First Impression of The Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Resort

We have toured the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Resort on numerous occasions.  Our first impression always seems to be the same, wow!  What an incredibly beautiful and well-manicured resort.  I guess sometimes we get so busy and focused on other resorts that we forget how lovely and value-added the Gran Bahia Principe Resort property offers guests. 

The hotel complex consists of two sections, the larger being the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum and the smaller the Gran Bahia Principe Akumel. The Gran Bahia Principe Tulum consists of 810 rooms.  Thirty six of them are junior suites distributed in three storey villas of 18 rooms each with the majority featuring an ocean view. 

The entrance to the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum is palm-tree lined which gives one has the sensation of approaching a large Mayan Temple. The thatched-roof above the polished marble lobby is very impressive. The tropical setting in the lobby is enhanced with long, hanging ferns, plants and bright flowers, Mayan art, and flowing water fountains.  Guests immediately sense a tropical, welcome home atmosphere upon entering the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Resort lobby - a wonderful first impression!

The Gran Bahia Principe Grounds

The grounds that stretch through the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Resort are well-manicured and meticulous --  very lush and tropical with bright colored flowers.  It seems that every blade of grass is in place!  So incredibly beautiful and peaceful and a joy to walk -- a true ecological experience. 

The Beach at the Gran Bahia Principe Akumal

The private white sand beach at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum is partially protected by a coral reef.  In order to protect the natural reef, motorized water sports are not permitted. Motorized water sports can be arranged in Playa del Carmen for an additional fee.  The Gran Bahia Principe is an elongated resort that is built along the clean white sand beach which is perfect for snorkeling as it is a natural reef.
