SHOPPING

Shopping in Puerto Vallarta is a unique experience for those accustomed to shopping in large malls and department stores, a truly unique experience.  The customer negotiates with the seller over the price of the items that he or she wishes to purchase.  In this way, the visitor may come to know Mexico in one of the most traditional forms.  Bargaining is a living expression of the Mexican culture to take back home with you.  While there, you may appreciate numerous items whose craftsmanship has been handed down and perfected over for many generations.  Note:  wear comfortable shoes as the streets are cobblestone.
STORE HOURS Most Mexican stores are open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.  Lunch time is from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and some of the stores are closed during this time.

bulletA visitor is fortunate indeed to be in Puerto Vallarta at the end of May.  During this time the city celebrates its anniversary with parades, fairs and street parties.  Typically, there are various concerts in the main square, singing after dark and acting performances, a two-person foot race, athletic competitions and a classical music festival.  The fairgrounds that are set up in the town's perimeter offers bullfights, cockfights and nightly entertainment including the appearance of Mexico's most famous performers.

December

bulletNovember 28th to December 12th is the time for very special traditional events.  Some of which include the Virgin of Guadalupe processions, usually starting at dusk.  Over 125 different groups including neighborhoods, hotels, associations and parishes in the Banderal Valley are expected to participate in this annual pilgrimage to Puerto Vallarta Cathedral, paying homage to Mexico's most revered Saint, the Virgin of Guadalupe.  On the eve of December 12th , the last procession begins at the Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa, walking from the North along the highway until it reaches the cathedral.

One of the main attractions that Puerto Vallarta offers to its visitors is the wide variety of arts and crafts, ceramics, blown glass, embroidered clothing, leather goods and sterling silver.  Visitors will enjoy the picturesque flea market and bargaining Mexican-style for a lovely souvenir.

Tropical Tours This is the most complete tour of the city and surrounding areas.  Visit the Marina pier, major hotels including Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa, of course, the downtown area and the main plaza.  Continue driving by along the river to take Bay and Gringo Gulch.  Visit the residential area up to Mismaloya where the "Night of the Iguana" was filmed.
Sea Tours The Banderas Bay is the second largest natural Bay in North America and offers a wide variety of secluded beaches, accessible only by sea.  It is also a proud member of the prestigious club:  "The Most Beautiful Bays of the World".
Fishing This is an outstanding departure point for deep-sea fishing expeditions.  Sailfish, marlins, bonitas, tuna and red snappers are abundant.  An International fishing tournament is held during the first week of November.

NEARBY BEACHES

 
lAS aNIMAS bEACH Enjoy a beautiful combination of blue waters, white sandy beach and tropical vegetation.  The quiet atmosphere of Las Animas Beach invites you to relax under the sun and to enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the home-style restaurants located on the beach.
Quimixto beach This small fishing village offers its visitors horseback riding, and/or hiking up to Quimixto waterfalls with its natural fresh and lush vegetation in this tropical paradise.
Yelapa Beach Located on the South end of Banderas Bay, Yelapa is also a fishing village surrounded by the Sierra Madre Mountains and the clear ocean.  Horses are available for a ride up the mountain to the waterfall.  On the beach there are restaurants where you can enjoy a drink and a delicious lunch.
Los Arcos The underwater national marine park at Los Arcos is the best place for scuba divers and snorkeling lovers to get a glimpse of the amazing world beneath the surface of the Bay of Banderas.  The unique natural arches and caves are a must for everyone who comes to Puerto Vallarta.
marietas islands Located just offshore, the Marietas islands are a favorite for snorkeling and diving.  Fascinating underwater vistas include a cave with an air pocket 40' beneath the water.  There is also abundant tropical fish including giant mantas and the humpback whales that breed here between December and May.
Los Muertos Beach Located closer to town, Los Muertos beach offers beach-goers a nice beachfront dotted with outdoor cafés serving cold beers, margaritas and snacks.  The pier is a great spot to watch the fishermen reel'em in.  In the evening, this location is also perfect for gazing at Puerto Vallarta's sunset while small boats return from a day at sea.
Punta de Mita Starting at the northern tip, the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez meet the water of Banderas bay to form the spectacularly beautiful Punta de Mita beach.
El Anciote For surfers, this is the locals' favorite spot for consistent waves.  There is also a white sand beachfront down the coast known as the "Restaurant Row" of the north shore.  Anciote also offers a good place to anchor dinghies and boats.
